Warm Up to Winter at 4th Annual Northwestival in University District
On Sunday December 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., University District will host its 4th annual celebration of winter at Northwest Commons Park. Admission to Northwestival is a cash donation with all proceeds going to I Can for Kids.
Predominantly in an outdoor setting, the winter festival will include an interactive ice bench, 30-foot-high heated igloo tents and roaming performers throughout University District’s Northwest Commons Park. The main stage headline act will be The Royal Foundry, an award-winning Electro-Alt -Pop band from Edmonton.
Maureen Henderson, Vice President Community Experience at University of Calgary Properties Group, explains, “We are so pleased to welcome back Northwestival. There will be a new line-up of entertainers and interactive activities, in addition to the array of businesses, restaurants and residences that continue to build our community as an attractive inner-city destination to live, work and play.”
An Enchanted Afternoon
Northwestival will provide both free and token-based activities. Tokens can be purchased on the day of the event for $1 each. Free and token events will include:
- Toasty fire pits and s’mores
- Winter themed crafts from Pinnovate Studios
- Cabane à sucre
- Kangaroo Cuddles
- Inflatable axe throwing
- Frosty memories photo booth
- Peak to Prairie Market
- Roaming performers, entertainment, and live music
- Main stage live performances
- Hot drink station
- BBQ Food truck
- And much more!
Fun for the Entire Family
Festival-goers are also encouraged to discover the community to support the many local businesses and services that have recently opened along University Avenue. A complete list of current retailers is available here.
Kickstart your Holiday Shopping
Northwestival will also welcome Peak to Prairie Market for the first time. Festival goers can expect to see a selection of local artisans and businesses throughout the space, providing a relaxed and festive shopping experience.
Northwestival Gives Back
Traditionally, admission to Northwestival was by donation of a jar of peanut butter that was donated to I Can for Kids. This year, attendees are asked to provide a cash donation only, which will support the I Can for Kids Grocery Gift Card Program. Save-On-Foods will also be matching donations for the day.
