Community Building

Community building is more than just bricks and mortar; it’s an investment in the people and relationships that help create great places to live, work, visit, play, and connect. University of Calgary Properties Group believes the most effective community investment is achieved by building nurturing relationships with organizations that serve the needs of the community. These organizations help us meet our business objectives by aligning our strengths and core values to initiatives and opportunities that create a lasting impact — our support goes beyond financial contributions. Our investment extends to giving-in-kind, volunteering, hosting and supporting events, creating programs, sharing ideas, and spreading social awareness.

I Can for Kids Foundation

A Calgary-based charitable organization, I Can For Kids has a mission to end summer childhood hunger and UCPG has joined their superhero ranks to help support this important endeavour. From packing food hampers in their warehouse to collecting cash donations and hundreds of jars of peanut butter at University District’s annual Northwestival, our team and awesome community members spread their support for this mighty little organization.

The Brenda Strafford Foundation

Aging in place and seniors care is important to UCPG, and we are proud to support the important work that The Brenda Strafford Foundation does. We believe an essential element to a successful community is ensuring that all ages and life-stages are included and supported. The newest seniors care facility for the organization will be located in University District. Whether it is supporting the foundation’s charity golf tournament or making holiday cards for seniors at University District’s annual Northwestival, we are proud to lend a helping hand to this important cause.

Calgary Food Bank

The face of hunger can be anyone in any community — our family, our friends, or our neighbours. With our goal of creating places where all Calgarians can thrive, the Calgary Food Bank was a natural fit for UCPG, with their vision of building a hunger-free community. Helping those in need, our team and local community have come together and collected thousands of pounds of food for the food bank at University District’s annual festival Northwestival to help them combat hunger.

Alberta Children’s Hospital

Located in the core of University District for more than a decade, the Alberta Children’s Hospital provides life-changing care for children in our communities. UCPG is a proud supporter of the Building Hope for Kids Gala, The RBC Race for Kids, and our annual private holiday concert celebration in conjunction with Derek Chiu for patients and their families.

TEDxYYC

TEDxYYC believes that sharing ideas about the future is essential in building a stronger community. Over the past nine years, TEDxYYC has brought together the world’s brightest minds in technology, entertainment, and design to the city of Calgary and strives to be a catalyst for the power of ideas and positive change. With our desire to foster innovation, inspire, and share ideas, we were keen to support TEDxYYC.

Industry Associations

We support our industry both locally, regionally and nationally through BILD Calgary Region, BILD Alberta and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. Our mission of creating amazing places where Calgarians can thrive contributes to the industry vision of creating the most liveable communities in the world.

Business in Calgary Legacy Leadership Award

The award is presented to a deserving alumnus that has demonstrated a sustained impact on the fabric of our city. To be a great leader and demonstrate business excellence with changing tides requires discipline, problem-solving ingenuity, generous community commitment, an ambitious spirit that inspires and an unwavering desire to collaboratively move the needle. It is an honour to be celebrating impactful leaders who are shaping our great city.
