University District Welcomes Borough Bar + Grill

The new restaurant pays homage to the boroughs of New York, specializing in roast chicken cooked on a custom-made vertical rotisserie, prime rib and whole fish.

The highly-anticipated Borough Bar + Grill has opened its doors in University District. The latest venture from Murrieta Hospitality Group features a 4,500 square foot dining room, expansive patio and a grab-and-go Borough Bar + Grill Patisserie. Murrieta Group Corporate Chef Daniel Pizarro has developed a menu as diverse as the boroughs of New York, featuring favourites such as rotisserie chicken, prime rib and whole fish. The restaurant also has a robust wine and cocktail list. “A contemporary eatery like Borough Bar + Grill is a very welcome addition to our University
District,” says University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG) VP of Community Experience, Maureen Henderson. “Perfectly positioned along University Avenue, with an expansive patio
overlooking our soon-to-be-completed Central Commons Park, Borough is a great place to gather, dine and enjoy all of the amenities of the neighbourhood. It’s poised to be a culinary destination in Calgary.”

“The Murrieta Group has been a leader in the city’s culinary scene for more than 20 years,” says Murrieta Hospitality Group Marketing Manager, Brittney Edge. “Borough Bar + Grill is aiming to bring back the social aspect of dining. After two years of isolation, distancing and deliveries Borough opens its doors with the sole purpose to invite Calgarians to come together again. With this in mind, it was clear the new and rapidly expanding University District was the perfect home for us. The community is the perfect collection of urban and rural, with beautiful green spaces, trendy cafes and theatres.”

The dining spaces include a large bar, banquette and booth style tables, a private dining room and a chef’s table for private parties.

The south-facing 148-seat patio is expected to provide a wonderful appeal to diners during Calgary’s spring, summer and fall months. Overlooking Central Commons Park, Borough guests have the opportunity to experience the urban park landscape from a front row seat. Gas-fired fireplaces and overhead heaters will help extend outdoor enjoyment well beyond the city’s typical patio season.

Central Commons Park is a state-of-the-art urban gathering space which is anticipated to be complete later this fall. A splash pad, refrigerated skating rink, fire features, bbq pits and concert staging area are just a few of the amenities across the three-acres of green space. Central Commons Park will also feature shower facilities for bike commuters working in U/D.

Borough joins many new eateries in University District. OEB Breakfast Co. recently opened their fourth Calgary location and The Alley, The Banquet, The Canadian Brewhouse and Village Ice Cream all opened their doors earlier this year, in addition to previously established eateries such as Five Guys, Sesame, Osmow’s, Bar Burrito and Freshii.

University District recently announced that Fuwa Fuwa Pancake House, The Calgary Hearing Loss Clinic, Almond Nail Bar, Foxy Box Waxing Studio and Bottoms Up Scrubs are expected to open later this year.
