University District Adds Two New Retailers to Retail Main Street
University District to Add Olive Nail Bar and Leading Edge Physiotherapy to its University Avenue Retail Main Street
University District (U/D) is pleased to announce the addition of two new retailers to its Retail Main Street: Olive Nail Bar and Leading Edge Physiotherapy. Both Olive Nail Bar and Leading Edge Physiotherapy are anticipated to open in December 2023/January 2024.
U/D is currently home to more than 30 diverse retailers, including quick-serve and dine-in restaurants and bars, a bakery, grocery, specialty wine and liquor, apparel stores and fitness facilities. The community is also home to unique amenities including Alberta’s only exclusive 18+ Cineplex VIP Cinemas, Staples Studio, a co-working space, Alt Hotel University District and many professional services and commercial office space tenants.

Says Gregg Callander, Interim President & CEO of University of Calgary Properties Group, “The progression of Retail Main Street has notably enhanced the quality of life in University District by providing a variety of convenient amenities within walking distance. The addition of a nail boutique and physiotherapy clinic will further enrich the fabric of our community and we anticipate both will quickly become beloved establishments in University District.”
Olive Nail Bar is a specialty beauty salon offering manicures, pedicures and other beauty services to clients with care. It is the first nail salon to call University District home and is expected to be a popular destination for members of the community and beyond.

Leading Edge Physiotherapy was founded in 2008 and currently operates nine physiotherapy clinics in Edmonton and the surrounding area, with University District becoming its 11th location and second location in Calgary. Leading Edge Physiotherapy brought the first Thomas Richard Vitton (TRV) chair, a unique tool for the diagnosis and treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) to Canada and plans to bring the second TRV chair to its University District location. In addition to a full suite of orthopaedic treatments, Leading Edge University will also house an extensive Pediatric Rehabilitation program.
Says Grant Fedoruk, President and CEO for Leading Edge Physiotherapy, “It has been amazing to see the growth of Leading Edge Physiotherapy since opening the first location in 2008 and we are pleased to be expanding the business to southern Alberta with a new location in Calgary’s University District. We believe that a physiotherapy clinic is a much-needed addition to this community and are optimistic that our services will be well-received by the residents here.”
In addition to these announcements, Aspire Medical Group is scheduled to open its office doors to new patients this November. It will offer top of the line medical services to patients by specialized physicians; specifically, in weight management and women’s health, along with welcoming walk-in patients.
Announced Retailers Coming in 2024
Over the past few months, University District has announced an exciting number of new retailers set to open in 2024 including UNA pizza + wine, Seed N Salt, Native Tongues Taqueria, Lagree YYC, Easy Blink Optometry, and Shoppers Drug Mart with more to come.
Coming to U/D: The U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition!

The U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition will take place this year on Thursday, November 30th and Thursday, December 7th at Central Commons Park (nestled between Borough Bar + Grill and The Banquet) between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Night Market brings a festive atmosphere with more than 35 local artisans, a free outdoor ice-skating rink, roaming characters, music performances and a 50-foot heated igloo. This event is perfect for the whole family to get into the holiday spirit. Skate rentals will also be available exclusively for the U/D Night Market – Holiday Edition dates.
