University District Named Canada’s Best Growing Community by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA)
In just a few short years since its inception, the desirable northwest Calgary community is quickly gaining national attention.
University District (U/D) is the winner of Canada’s Best Growing Community Award recognized by the CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence. As U/D’s developer, University of Calgary Properties Group is the proud recipient of this award, along with the many accolades and distinctions the community has earned within a relatively short period of time. The 2022 CHBA National Awards for Housing Excellence winners were selected from 800 entries across 48 categories by a group of nearly 200 judges from across the country.
U/D has become a lively events hub in Northwest Calgary hosting night markets, farmer stands, and winter festivals throughout the year.
The first residents moved into University District in 2018, just three years after construction started in 2015. Today, University District is home to more than 2,000 residents, over 20 retailers (with more opening in the coming weeks), 40 acres of park and green spaces, unique signature pop-up events that bring the community together, state-of-the-art office spaces and excellent transit and pathway access.

University District most recently launched a series of Monthly Night Markets, which will run through to September on the last Wednesday of every month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Retail Main Street Central Plaza. Weekly fresh produce stands and a Village Ice Cream pop-up in support of I Can For Kids also adds to the vibrancy of the community.
University District continues to be the best-selling Master Planned urban community in Calgary since its launch in 2017.
From a residential perspective, University District offers a variety of homes to suit a broad range of lifestyles and demographics, from young professionals through to aging in place options for seniors or those experiencing declining health.
