What is the current status of development?

University District began construction in 2017 and is well underway with both residential, public parks, greenspaces and construction of commercial spaces in various stages. Progress on the development can be found on myuniversitydistrict.ca

What is the relationship between University District and UCPG?

UCPG is the trustee for University District Trust and University Innovation Quarter Trust. U/D and UIQ are separate legal trusts. The Corporation (UCPG) and it’s Trusts operate independently of the University under the governance of a Board of Directors and collectively represent all stakeholders, including the University of Calgary, the real estate and development industry, and the surrounding communities. While the Trustee acts as trustee of both Trusts, it is important that the business of each of the Trusts be carried on distinctly from the other.

Is there adequate public greenspace?

The Master Plan builds on the many natural qualities of the site to create an integrated, environmentally sensitive open space system to serve the community. University District offers 40 acres of greenspace and 12 km of pathways.

​​Is there safe and active transportation within and around the development including bike and pedestrian paths?

Yes. The University District Master Plan features “complete streets” whereby all modes of travel — walking, biking, driving —are considered and connected. The entire master planned area open space system will blend seamlessly with the surrounding open space network, as bike and pedestrian paths will connect major open space elements to the UCalgary Main Campus and the surrounding communities.

We are dedicated to being a community that is walkable and bike friendly. The community also includes enhanced transit service including MAX stations.
