University Innovation Quarter Welcomes North Point Schools, Expanding Its Innovation Ecosystem

The innovative K–12 school joins Calgary’s University Innovation Quarter, embedding future innovators into Calgary’s leading research and innovation community.
University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG) is proud to announce that North Point Schools (North Point) will join University Innovation Quarter (UIQ) as a new community member, opening on September 2, 2026. This marks an important milestone in the evolution of Calgary’s emerging innovation district and further expands its ecosystem of research, education and innovation. The addition of a K–12 independent school with a strong emphasis on STEM-focused and experiential learning adds an educational dimension to cultivating innovation across generations.
Located adjacent to the University of Calgary main campus, UIQ is a transformative community dedicated to bringing together academia, research and innovation. The inclusion of North Point Schools introduces a unique and forward-looking dimension directly into Calgary’s innovation corridor. The new North Point UIQ Campus will offer students direct exposure to an active innovation ecosystem where research, entrepreneurship and industry intersect.
Says Novy Cheema, President and CEO for UCPG, “University Innovation Quarter is designed to be a place where ideas are born, tested and scaled. Welcoming North Point Schools to UIQ is a meaningful step forward in building a future-focused environment. With a strong foundation grounded in STEM education, entrepreneurship, creativity and real-world problem-solving, North Point is an ideal addition to UIQ’s innovation ecosystem.”
The arrival of North Point at UIQ represents a generational investment in Calgary’s future. A Grade 3 student curious about robotics or a high school learner passionate about health sciences and business will not simply study theory; they will grow up in an environment that teaches them what is possible for the future.
Says Kim Pirie, Founder of North Point Schools, “We are incredibly excited to relocate our Currie Campus to the Alastair Ross Technology Centre and deepen our partnership with the University of Calgary. The proximity to a world-class post-secondary campus allows us to unite K–12 education with post-secondary innovation, enhancing our experiential and relational approach to learning. In addition, being part of University Innovation Quarter is a powerful opportunity that aligns well with our integrated STEM programming. At North Point Schools, we believe that a culture of hands-on exploration sparks curiosity and empowers students to reach their full potential as life-long learners. We look forward to building relationships in and around the innovation district.”
UIQ is currently in the formal approvals process with the City of Calgary reviewing the proposed vision for the area. The revitalization of UIQ will provide added value to Calgary’s innovation sector through job growth, economic diversification and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Last year, as the first development milestone in UIQ, UCPG completed the expansion of the Alastair Ross Technology Centre and welcomed Quantum City. Its grand opening was celebrated in March 2025. With its proximity to the Brentwood LRT station, existing bus routes and pathways, UIQ provides easy access to the University of Calgary main campus, the downtown core and its existing innovation ecosystem, and established pillars such as the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Foothills Medical Centre and University District marking it as a promising destination to accelerate innovation.
