The Opportunity

University of Calgary Properties Group Ltd. (UCPG) is looking for a Communications and Marketing Manager to oversee and support the Community Experience portfolio of our organization. Reporting to the Vice President, Community Experience, you will lead the integrated communications and marketing functions as they relate to our management company and land development projects, which include University District and University Innovation Quarter, both master planned urban communities in Northwest Calgary. The successful applicant will be responsible to uphold the quality standards for management of UCPG properties and be a brand ambassador for our organization.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Community Experience, the Communications & Marketing Manager is an experienced and articulate champion leading strategic and integrated marcomm initiatives for our organization. This hands-on role will support a wide range of activities, focusing on both communications and marketing support across the company and will be vital in the delivery of high-quality content across a variety of platforms to audience stakeholders and media channels. The role will support issue management and media relations, acting as a spokesperson for the organization, when required.
In this role, you will identify and implement key communication and marketing initiatives and act as the brand champion to protect the reputation of UCPG and increase brand awareness in our vision of building uniquely distinguishable urban communities. Superior writing skills are innate and the ability to translate insights and ideas into clear and compelling messaging play an important role in supporting the wide range of activities and deliverable for the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Planning
• Lead, manage and implement a compelling marcomm strategy for the organization in line with annual strategic objectives.
• Develop, plan, and execute innovative, integrated communication and marketing plans and go-to-market strategies for our community projects.
• Work in conjunction with Vice President Community Experience in developing and measuring key metrics around the business including customer acquisition, conversion rates, engagement rates, customer satisfaction and retention.
• Work in conjunction with the Senior Digital Marketing Specialist to ensure marketing best practices including content marketing, multi-channel marketing, digital and web marketing, and analytics are optimal for all projects within the organization’s portfolio.
• In collaboration with the Vice President Community Experience, conduct annual market research to aid in the knowledge and understanding the of Calgary Real Estate market, brand awareness for the community, buyer preferences and audience segmentation and product positioning.

• Be the brand champion for the organization across all communication channels and stakeholder groups by clearly outlining and articulating our brand voice and style.
• In collaboration with the Senior Digital Marketing Specialist, coordinate writing, editing, proofreading, production and archiving of communication materials.
• Plan, research, write and edit timely, interesting, and relevant communication content, in support of internal and external communications programs, including (but not limited to) consumer materials, social media, industry material, committee reports, board reports, community newsletter publications, press releases, product/service launches, sales material, web and social media content.
• Responsible for preparation and dissemination of communications for external stakeholders.
• In concert with the Vice President, Community Experience, develop, manage, and implement, as appropriate, comprehensive communications plans, for organizational announcements to raise the profile of the organization and related stakeholder groups.
• Provide guidance and support to the team for presentations, speaking engagements and stakeholder engagement.
• Lead and prepare annual awards applications.
• Effectively manage budgets for marketing and communications products and activities.
• In collaboration with the Digital Marketing Specialist, listen and engage in relevant social discussions about our projects, competitors, and/or industry, and explore new ways to engage in social networks to target new community advocates.

Media Relations
• In collaboration with the Vice President, Community Experience, proactively and reactively manage aspects of media relations, including media pitching, coordinating media requests, planning and managing media events, creating public relations strategies, developing key messaging, coordinating media interviews, coaching and briefing spokespeople and managing relationships with media.
• Build positive relationships and engage with stakeholders and the media to enhance public understanding of the organization’s activities and positions on major issues.
• Develop briefing documents in support of initiatives, events, and interviews.

Event Planning
• In collaboration with the marcomm team, oversee the planning for a wide variety of events each year to effectively communicate the goals, activities, and priorities of the organization and increase its public profile in the community.
• Provide strategic assessment and make recommendations to leadership of events and tactics to determine feasibility, value to the organization, as well as propose and implement appropriate changes, additions, and deletions to the annual event schedule.
• Provide regular reporting to relevant parties regarding event planning and event outcomes.
• Supporting the Vice President, Community Experience with corporate charitable giving and social responsibility programs, including communications development, promotion, and management.

Job Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree in marketing, business administration or combination of education and experience appropriate to achieve the mandate.
• Superior written and verbal communication, decision-making, problem-solving and organizational skills.
• Deep experience leading and executing strategic and unique sales and marketing programs with the ability to develop a clear and defined vision to a sales and marketing team.
• Adaptable, deadline-driven, result-oriented; a strong project manager with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and resources within tight timelines.
• Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally, with a focus on value-added service.
• Knowledge of media relations strategies and a keen interest in communications overall, with an understanding of best practices and latest approaches.
• Understanding of current social media platforms and awareness of the latest trends and tools.
• Experience setting and managing budgets, data analysis and campaign reporting.
• A team player with a strong desire to collaborate as part of an integrated and expanding team.
• Energetic team player with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
• A high level of discretionary decision-making and judgment.
• Experience in real estate development or residential sales considered an asset.
